19世紀末のニューヨーク。A Victorian Englishman travels to the far future and finds that humamity has divided into two hostile species科学者のアレクサンダーは強盗に殺されてしまったガールフレンドの運命を変えようとタイムマシンをつくる。 4年後にタイムマシンが完成、彼女が殺された日に戻り、殺された公園には行かないで街に誘い出した。ところが、街で馬車の事故にあい彼女はやはり死んでしまう。

Awesome tale and very good acting by the lead actor Rod Taylor about a man who travels into a far distant future where all signs of a normal civilized society has been completely wipe out. I'm pretty sure this movie can be remade with the special effects of today and make a better design of the the time machine and costumes/makeup etc. but they will probably fail in delivering the goods. Solid acting especially in a sci-fi film. With that said it will still be worth a look at a remake's future version.

HG ウエルズ原作、1960年に映画化された SFクラシック『タイムマシーン』のリメイク。

超低予算だったオリジナルと比べると、今回の作品ははハイテク技術の進歩も含めてビジュアル面では比較にならないのは言うまでもない。 特に、主人公が時間旅行をするシークエンスではマネキン・チェンジをはじめオリジナルと同じカメラアングルを採用していて、CGを使ったリメイク版は映像の美しさが際立つ。 しかし、科学者がタイムとラベルをする動機、800千年後の人類などが、オリジナルとは異なった設定となっており、原作者 H.G. Wells の曾孫が監督したリメイクはふやけたラブストーリーに仕上がっている。

リメイクはオリジナルを絶対に超えることは無いという原則の典型。
